“You’re not lacking confidence. You’re carrying a mindset built for the bedside into a business..."

The mindset that kept me charging $10 a session

Dear Karen,

I remember the moment I realized something was wrong.

I had the credentials. I had the experience. I had decades of knowing how to show up for people in their most vulnerable moments. And I had quietly, finally, taken the leap into my own practice.

Then I sat down to find clients — and froze.

Not because I wasn't good enough. Not because I didn't care deeply about the work. But because everything nursing had trained me to do — follow the protocol, put others first, never ask for more than you're given — was quietly working against me every time I tried to build something of my own.

I was charging $10 to $25 a session. Most of my work was pro bono. And I kept telling myself I just needed one more certification before I'd feel ready.

I wasn't lazy. I wasn't lacking passion. I was carrying a mindset built for the bedside straight into a business — and nobody had ever told me those were two completely different skill sets.

That's what my newest article is about.

I wrote it for introverted, quietly ambitious nurses who have taken the leap (or are thinking about it) and keep hitting a wall they can't quite name. In it, I share the four specific mindsets I had to unlearn before I could start building something sustainable — and introduce the framework I now use to help nursepreneurs build businesses that actually fit who they are.

If any of this sounds familiar, I think you'll find something useful in it.
