“Permission is external. Readiness is a choice."

When "not ready" really means "no permission"

Permission is external. Someone above you grants it.

Readiness is internal. You choose it.

Nurse entrepreneurs conflate the two all the time. You tell yourself you're waiting until you're ready, but what you're really waiting for is permission. You're waiting to feel authorized. Validated. Seen as worthy of the title you've already earned.

The permission will never come. There's no one above you to give it anymore.

But readiness? That you can choose right now. Not perfectly. Not without fear. You can act from the knowledge and commitment you already have, and build confidence through motion rather than waiting for it to arrive first.

Your clinical training taught you to wait for approval before you act. In business, that same instinct becomes a trap.

Coach Yourself:

  1. What decision am I waiting for someone else to authorize?
  2. What do I already know that I'm pretending I don't?
  3. What would I tell a client in this exact moment?

Affirmation: I am the authority I've been waiting for.
